History of the domaine

Not far from the site of a large roman villa, are situated the buildings of the Campagne de Centeilles. Even though they have been restored, these buildings are still a poor reflection of the importance of this location must have had in the past. Centeilles is at middle of this area, dedicated to what the cadastre continues to name the "foirail" ("fairground" proves the significance of this meeting place). According to the religious legend of the "Centeilhas", meaning one hundred widows in Oc language, the domaine was initially occupied by the Order of the Widows, and after by the the Saint-Antoine hermits. The compoix indicate precisely where the hermitage of Centeilles was located. In the heart of this harmonious, Cezanne like, landscape, with cypresses and olive trees, rises the church of N-D de Centeilles.

The present nave was built in the location of a Romanesque church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin in the 11th century. The church was restored inthe 1960's years. Today, we hear the bells ring again at the top of the campanile, from the "rescued" church Notre-Dame de Centeilles. However, above all, Centeilles is a viticultural heritage whose hazards of family inheritances, joining cooperatives, etc. never succeeded in obliterating its genius. Therefore, since the 1990 wine-harvest, Patricia struck, like anybody else, by the obvious predestination of this place to give birth to great wines, decided to link its past to its future in an exciting present : the rescuing of a great forgotten terroir. One thing is sure though, enjoying the peace of Centeilles without even talking about wine, is already very valuable in itself.
